This is something that has been on my mind for a while now – looking back not just at 2012, but my life as a whole, I can see where God put me somewhere for a reason, and that’s not always a clear thing after the fact, but time and time I look back and see where God put me someplace maybe comfortable or not, or in a person’s life – and as I said that moment, you don’t always understand the reasons, maybe the other person doesn’t either – but sometimes the ability to look again older/wiser/changed – we see more.
This is something too that was taught to me via my parents growing up, my mom is a Occupational Therapist (OT) and has worked with many folks, I remember being at her work as a kid and talking sometimes to patients, but the one I remember the most is a girl who had been burned nearly her entire body after a accident with her father teaching fire safety, and the wind whipped up the fire and surrounded them, he gave his life covering her with his body to allow her to live – now at a young age covered with burns, not always easy to avoid names, kids being scared, etc. but my mom felt we could be good friends for this gal.
While I may not be in touch with the gal anymore, I remember talking to her – I remember being a friend and maybe not understanding why my mom pushed us together, but at that time, when she had already lost her father, had guilt, had pain, had so much going on, she needed someone who talked, didn’t judge, didn’t ask questions that brought up hurt.
But time and time again I look back in my life where I’ve been in someone’s life for maybe a day, a week, a month, maybe a year – and how those experiences changed first and foremost… Me. Because even if mixing your life with another for even a season you never know the true purpose sometimes God has for it — It does say in Hebrews:
Hebrews 13 (NIV84)
1 Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.
How many times have you said a kind word and not even known maybe you were entertaining an angel? I have been blessed to have folks in my life in this last year alone – some went away for a spell, but some are back – but then again some who had faded away years ago are back – but even with those coming and going, how does your life impact others?
It’s one thing said on Facebook/Twitter lately a lot by pastors and folks feeling very “Christiany” the quote:
Our Lives Are the Only Bible Some People Will Ever Read
And I think that’s true – but I think we generalize that to the non-believer – but I think that goes too for other believers, we live our faith, we live our belief, we can even thru how we live encourage and educate fellow believers – because our lives are meant to shine, not to just those who don’t know Christ, but those who do – because we never know when others are in darkness and simply need the light, because words can say “I’m a Christian” but we don’t know the speck in our brother’s eyes.
Remember today that even if a person is in your life for a season as verse 1 above says “Keep on loving each other as brothers”! Don’t love a little, love a lot, even if it means the person is in your life for a day, show the love of Christ to your fullest and know that that day was for a reason, and while the season was short – God can use the smallest things to do the biggest things! Look at Christ, came as a TINY baby, and yet he grew to be the CHANGE we needed – plant the seeds that change lives with Love.
